Promoting Development, Learning & Wellbeing

The first three years establish foundations of cognitive, physical, social, and emotional competence. During this period, the brain undergoes rapid postnatal maturation — functionally validating synapses through repeated sensory experience and selecting neural networks most consistently activated (Harding, 2023). Given identified gaps in ECT oral language preparedness, intentional instruction in phonology, syntax, and semantics is essential from the earliest interactions (Weadman et al., 2021).

Relationship-based caregiving — characterised by regular, reciprocal interactions — underpins quality practice across all domains (Harper-Browne & Raikes, 2012). The EYLF V2.0 (AGDE, 2022) affirms that security and belonging directly enable active environmental engagement. Informed by Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological model, educators honour family and community contexts shaping development (Garvis et al., 2019). Every caregiving routine becomes a site of aural immersion — stimulating speech and language centres through high-quality back-and-forth talk, predictable routines, and authentic family partnership (Masterson, 2018).
